A building body of evidence is indicating that carbohydrate restriction can be a viable treatment for certain cancers. Restricting carbohydrates can slow or stop tumor growth, enhancing the treatment for cancer patients and even extending their survival. Benefits for the treatment of cancer are shown when carbohydrates are restricted to 20% of total calories or less. Most of the research is using the ketogenic diet, which restricts carbohydrates to 10% or less of total calories. More research is needed on if carbohydrate restricted diets with also work for cancer prevention.

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common foot problems causing pain on the sole of the foot near the heel. This condition alone results in approximately two million visits to both foot specialist and primary care physicians each year. The condition is caused by inflammation of a thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of the heel to the toes.

A discussion in the SOFLETE Team Room got me thinking about all the stupid things I’ve done that could have shortened my stay on this earth. Sometimes those things were necessary or at least unavoidable. The extremities of combat or the exigencies of professions like emergency services place practitioners in situations that demand an acceptance of risk. But a lot of times my narrow escapes were the results of being under-planned, under-trained, or under-aware.

Over the past few decades, the world has evolved to understand the myriad of benefits of an active lifestyle. With each passing year, more and more people look to start some kind of fitness journey in an effort to live a better, longer, and healthier life.  

There is solitude in failure. But how a man reacts to that loneliness—despite being surrounded by friends—determines whether he grows or continues to spiral downward.

The average person spends 12 hours per day sitting. Most people do not notice how often they sit throughout the day because we sit when we sit constantly for short amounts of time that tend to add up: while traveling, eating, working, studying, relaxing, reading, or waiting. Our posture when sitting can have major consequences on our backs if we don’t make a conscious effort to sit right.
